How to Block Porn on Android

Combine NoorI's DNS filtering with Google Family Link for app-level coverage Android needs.

Why Android needs two layers

Android is more open than iOS by design — it's easier to sideload apps or alternate browsers that route around a single blocking method. That's exactly why NoorI filters at the DNS level rather than inside a single app: the block applies no matter which browser or app makes the request.

Enable category filtering

After enrolling the device in NoorI, turn on the Adult Themes category in Content Policy. This blocks explicit domains across every app on the device — Chrome, alternate browsers, in-app browsers, all of it — not just a single monitored app.

Turn on SafeSearch

In Chrome's settings, enable SafeSearch, and consider locking it via Family Link so it can't be toggled off. NoorI enforces safe search at the network level on supported search engines too, so this acts as a second confirmation rather than your only defense.

On uninstall protection

Being direct about a real limitation: on a normal (non-managed) phone, nothing stops a determined teenager from uninstalling the Cloudflare One app from Settings → Apps — there's no setting that fully blocks that outcome. Two things narrow the gap: turning on Always-on VPN + "Block connections without VPN" in the Android setup steps above means removing the app also removes all internet access on that device, not just NoorI's filtering; and NoorI separately watches each device's check-in status, emailing you automatically within about 30 minutes if one goes quiet. See the Activity tab for the same signal at a glance. True uninstall-prevention only exists via full mobile device management (MDM) enrollment, which trades away the five-minute setup for a much heavier onboarding process.
