How to Block Gambling Sites on Every Device (Casinos, Betting, Crypto)

Block gambling and betting sites on your phone and computer: self-exclusion schemes, bank gambling blocks and DNS category blocking a relapse can't undo.

Gambling needs more than one barrier

Gambling urges are fast and money moves instantly. One blocker is rarely enough, because the gap between "I want to bet" and "I have placed a bet" is under a minute. The most effective approach stacks three independent barriers: a legal self-exclusion with licensed operators, a block on your money, and a block on the sites themselves on every device you own. If gambling is causing you harm, please also talk to a support service in your country; blocking tools work best alongside real support.

Barrier 1: self-exclusion schemes

  • UK: GAMSTOP excludes you from all UK-licensed online operators for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years.
  • Australia: BetStop, the national register, covers licensed online and phone wagering.
  • US and Canada: self-exclusion is run per state or province by regulators and lottery bodies, so check your local one.

Self-exclusion is powerful but only binds licensed operators in that country. Offshore casinos, crypto casinos and sweepstakes sites are not covered, which is exactly where a determined relapse goes.

Barrier 2: block gambling payments

Many banks and card issuers, particularly in the UK, offer a gambling block in their app that declines card payments to gambling merchants, often with a cooling-off period before it can be turned off. Look under card or security settings, or ask your bank. It does not stop crypto deposits, which is another reason to block the sites too.

Barrier 3: block gambling sites with NoorI

NoorI uses Cloudflare's Gambling content category, which covers casinos, sportsbooks, poker, lottery and betting sites, and applies it to every enrolled device on any network.

  1. Create a NoorI account and enroll your phone and computer with the free Cloudflare One app, using the quick start guide.
  2. In Content Policy, apply the Balanced preset. It adds Gambling (and ads) on top of adult content and security threats. Or add the Gambling category to your own rule.
  3. Add specific operators you know you are drawn to as Web addresses, including any new or offshore site you notice getting through.
  4. Test from your phone on mobile data, not just WiFi.

Gambling blocking needs Pro ($9.99/month, 7-day free trial): the Free plan is limited to the Basic preset, which covers adult content and security threats but not gambling.

Why Guardian Mode matters most for gambling

Gambling relapses tend to start with "just one bet". Guardian Mode puts a person and a clock in the way. Once a trusted friend or family member accepts your invite and you enable it, removing the gambling block, pausing filtering or disconnecting requires their email approval. Even after approval you wait out a delay you chose (minimum 4 hours; many people pick 24 or more), then get a 30-minute window before it re-locks. A guardian also cannot be removed within the first 2 days after accepting. That delay is usually longer than the urge.

Honest limits

  • New domains and mirror sites appear constantly. Category coverage is broad but not instant, so add any site you spot as a custom domain.
  • Prediction markets, skins-betting and some crypto platforms may not be categorised as gambling. Add them by domain if they are a problem for you.
  • A separate VPN app routes around DNS filtering. See VPN and bypass prevention.
  • Devices you do not enroll, such as a work laptop, are not covered.

For gambling apps specifically, see blocking betting apps on your phone.

Frequently asked questions

Does GAMSTOP block offshore and crypto casinos?

No. GAMSTOP only applies to operators licensed in Great Britain. Offshore and crypto casinos are outside it, which is why a device-level block is a useful second layer.

Can I block gambling sites on the NoorI Free plan?

No. Free is limited to the Basic preset (adult content and security threats). Blocking the Gambling category needs Pro, which has a 7-day free trial.

How do I stop myself unblocking gambling sites in a weak moment?

Turn on Guardian Mode. Any change that loosens your rules needs your guardian's approval, followed by a delay of at least 4 hours before a short edit window opens.

Will blocking gambling sites block my bank or PayPal?

No. The Gambling category targets gambling operators, not general finance sites.
