BlockerX Alternative: Network-Level Porn Blocking With a Real Unlock Lock

Comparing BlockerX with NoorI: an app-based porn blocker with community and courses versus DNS-level filtering with a guardian who approves unlocks.

Who this comparison is for

BlockerX is one of the most downloaded porn blocker apps, and it's aimed squarely at people trying to quit porn for themselves. That's NoorI's main audience too, so the two tools often come up side by side. If you're choosing between them, the useful question isn't which one blocks more sites. Both block adult content. The real questions are where the blocking happens and what stops you from switching it off when the urge hits.

What BlockerX offers

According to BlockerX's own site in October 2026, it runs as an app or extension on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Chrome. Its feature list includes:

  • An adult-content blocklist it describes as covering over 2 million sites, plus custom block lists, keyword blocking and enforced safe search
  • Blockers for social media, gaming and dating apps
  • An accountability partner feature on premium plans
  • Uninstall protection on Android and uninstall notifications on iPhone
  • A recovery community, articles, video courses and a personalised recovery plan
  • Streak and usage stats

BlockerX sells annual and lifetime premium plans. Its web, App Store and Google Play prices don't always match and are often shown with promotional discounts, so check their site or your app store for the current price.

How NoorI is different

NoorI doesn't run its filter inside an app on your phone. It routes each enrolled device's DNS lookups through a private Cloudflare Zero Trust Gateway location created for your account, using the free Cloudflare One app on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac. The rule is checked before any connection is made, so it applies to every browser and every app on the device the same way, including in-app browsers and private windows. You don't need your own Cloudflare account.

On top of that, you can:

  • Block whole categories, specific apps or exact domains
  • Enforce safe search
  • Schedule rules, for example social media blocked during work hours
  • Pause the internet entirely
  • Block a single URL path instead of a whole site (in browsers, with the optional NoorI certificate, which also gives you a branded block page)

For recovery, the key feature is Guardian mode on Pro and Family plans. Once your guardian accepts, any change that loosens protection has to wait for their approval. That covers editing or deleting rules, pausing, disconnecting and even removing the guardian. After they approve, a delay you set during setup (at least four hours) runs first, and then you get a 30-minute window to make changes. Adding new blocks is always allowed without asking.

BlockerX vs NoorI, side by side

BlockerX

  • Where filtering runs: inside the BlockerX app or extension on each device
  • What it blocks: an adult blocklist, keywords, custom sites, plus social media, gaming and dating apps
  • Stopping yourself from turning it off: uninstall protection on Android, uninstall alerts on iPhone and an accountability partner
  • Recovery support: community, courses, a recovery plan and streaks
  • Free version: a limited free tier, with premium needed for most protection features

NoorI

  • Where filtering runs: at the network (DNS) level through Cloudflare's Gateway, enrolled with the official Cloudflare One app
  • What it blocks: categories, apps and exact domains, with safe search, schedules and URL-path blocking in browsers via the certificate
  • Stopping yourself from turning it off: Guardian mode. Loosening protection needs another person's approval and a mandatory delay. NoorI also blocks manual DNS changes on enrolled devices.
  • Recovery support: written guides only, with no community or courses
  • Free version: 1 device with the Basic preset and no card. Pro is $9.99/month or $95.99/year for 10 devices and Guardian mode.

Why the filtering layer matters for self-control

An app-based blocker can only enforce what the operating system lets an app enforce. On iPhone in particular, third-party apps have limited control over other apps, and filtering in other browsers can depend on how each one is set up. A network-layer filter avoids most of that. If a domain is blocked, it's blocked in Safari, Chrome, Reddit's in-app browser and a random app you installed at midnight alike.

Neither approach is magic. Any filter, NoorI included, can be defeated by someone determined enough to install a separate VPN or remove the enrollment app on a device they fully control. We're upfront about that in our bypass prevention guide. What helps in recovery is making the bypass slow and deliberate. Guardian mode does that for settings changes, and OS-level restrictions do it for app removal. Our bypass-proofing guide was written for parents, but the same hardening steps work if you're locking down your own phone.

When BlockerX is the better choice

  • You want a recovery program, not just a filter. BlockerX's community, courses and streak tracking give you a structure that NoorI doesn't try to provide.
  • You mainly use a Chromebook or the Chrome browser, where BlockerX's extension fits naturally. NoorI enrolls iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac.
  • You want keyword blocking for search terms. NoorI works on domains and URL paths and never sees what you type.
  • You prefer a one-time lifetime purchase over a subscription.

When NoorI is the better choice

  • You've beaten app-level blockers before, with a different browser, an in-app browser or a quick settings change, and you want the block to sit below all of that.
  • You want the off switch held by someone else, with a cooling-off delay so even an approved unlock isn't instant.
  • You care about privacy. NoorI only ever sees the domains a device contacted and whether each was allowed or blocked. It never sees page content, searches or messages.
  • You want one dashboard for every device you own, with the same rules pushed to all of them.
  • You also want a focus tool. The same rules and schedules that block porn can block distracting sites during work hours. See focus mode.

Getting started

Start on the free plan with one device using the quick start guide, and check that the block holds across every browser and app you actually use. If it does, Pro adds Guardian mode, custom domains and scheduling. You might also find our comparisons with Covenant Eyes and NextDNS useful.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good alternative to BlockerX?

It depends on what you need. If you want a block that applies across every app and browser, a DNS-level filter like NoorI is a strong alternative, and its Guardian mode means loosening the filter needs another person's approval. If you want community and courses, look at recovery-focused apps.

Can BlockerX be bypassed?

Any on-device blocker is limited by what the operating system allows, and BlockerX itself offers uninstall protection on Android and uninstall notifications on iPhone. Network-level filters like NoorI work below individual apps, but no filter can stop someone fully removing the protection on a device they control.

Does NoorI block porn in every browser and app?

Yes, on enrolled devices. NoorI filters DNS lookups at the network level, so a blocked domain is blocked in every browser, in private windows and inside other apps' built-in browsers.

Does NoorI have keyword blocking like BlockerX?

No. NoorI blocks by category, app, exact domain and, with the optional certificate, URL path in browsers. It doesn't read search terms or page text, which is part of its privacy design.

Is there a free porn blocker for iPhone and Android?

NoorI's free plan covers one device on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac with the Basic preset, and no card is needed. Guardian mode, custom domains and scheduling need the Pro plan.
