How to Block Social Media for Your Child

Block Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and others by name — or allow them on a schedule instead.

Blocking by app, not just by browser

NoorI's app catalog lets you block a named app — Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and others — which blocks every domain that app and its web version rely on. This catches the app itself, not just a browser tab, since the block happens at the DNS level before any of those domains resolve.

Setting it up

In Content Policy, create or edit a rule, switch to the Apps tab, and pick the apps you want to control from the catalog. This works alongside category and domain rules in the same policy.

Scheduling instead of blocking outright

Rather than blocking social apps entirely, most families get better results scheduling them — for example, blocked all day except 6–8pm on school nights. See our full scheduling guide for setting time windows per day of the week.

Different rules per child

On the Family plan, a younger child's profile can block social apps entirely while an older sibling's profile allows them on a schedule — each child's policy is independent. See setting different rules for different children.

What to expect

Because this is DNS-level, blocking is consistent across the app and any browser version of the same service. In rare cases a cached page might briefly still show; a refresh will hit the block.
