How to Block TikTok on iPhone for Good

Block TikTok on your iPhone across the app, the website and its video servers. Why TikTok's screen-time passcode is easy to beat, and a block that holds.

Why TikTok is the hardest one to quit

TikTok's For You page learns what you respond to faster than any other feed. There's no friends list to scroll to the end of and no natural stopping point. You open it for one video and come back to your phone screen 50 minutes later. People block it to get their attention span back, to stop the bedtime scroll, and to stop TikTok Shop impulse buys. Some block it because the algorithm keeps drifting toward suggestive content however often they tap "Not interested".

Option 1: TikTok's screen time limit and iPhone Screen Time

Inside TikTok:

  1. Go to Profile → menu → Settings and privacy → Screen time.
  2. Tap Daily screen time, choose a limit, and set a passcode when asked.
  3. Turn on Restricted Mode under Content preferences if mature content is the issue.

With iPhone Screen Time:

  1. Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit, choose TikTok, set 1 minute, and turn on Block at End of Limit.
  2. Add tiktok.com under Content & Privacy Restrictions → Web Content → Never Allow to cover Safari.

Why TikTok's own limit is easy to beat

  • You chose the passcode, so you know it. The limit becomes something you agree to rather than something that stops you.
  • Deleting and reinstalling TikTok, or logging into a second account, starts over with fresh settings.
  • iPhone App Limits offer "Ignore Limit", and the web version of TikTok still plays videos in Safari.

Option 2: Block TikTok at the DNS level with NoorI

TikTok loads video from several content-delivery domains, so blocking only tiktok.com often leaves cached videos playing. NoorI's TikTok entry covers all of them.

  1. Enroll your iPhone with the free Cloudflare One app (iPhone setup guide).
  2. In Content Policy, create a rule, open the Apps tab and select TikTok. That covers tiktok.com, tiktokv.com (the app API), tiktokcdn.com, tiktokcdn-us.com and muscdn.com.
  3. Save, swipe TikTok closed, and reopen it. You'll see a network error and no new videos.

Blocking a specific app needs Pro ($9.99/month, 7-day free trial). Reinstalling or switching accounts doesn't help, because the block applies to the phone, not to a TikTok account.

The catch: TikTok content moves to other apps

When TikTok goes, the same videos turn up as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, often as reposts of the exact clips. If what you're really quitting is short-form video in general, plan for this from the start:

  • Block Instagram in the same rule, or schedule it (see blocking Instagram on iPhone).
  • Decide what to do about YouTube. Shorts can't be separated from the rest of YouTube at the network level. Our YouTube Shorts guide explains the honest options.

Make it stick: Guardian Mode

Guardian Mode (Pro) adds a second person to the loop. You invite someone you trust, such as a partner, friend, sponsor or accountability buddy, from Settings → Guardian Mode. Once they accept and you switch it on, these changes need their approval: editing or deleting a rule, pausing protection, unlocking your profile, and disconnecting NoorI. Adding a new block never needs approval, because it only makes you safer.

When you ask to unlock, your guardian gets an email. Even if they approve, nothing opens right away. There is a mandatory delay of at least 4 hours (24 hours by default), then a 30-minute window to make changes, then everything locks again by itself. A request your guardian never answers expires after 48 hours. A guardian also can't be removed for the first 2 days after they accept, so you can't invite a second email address you own and quietly delete it.

Also set Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Deleting Apps → Don't Allow, and give the passcode to your guardian, so removing Cloudflare One isn't an easy way out.

Blocking TikTok for a child?

Blocking this for a child instead? The same steps work, but a managed child profile with its own rules is a better fit than sharing your account. See setting different rules for different children.

Frequently asked questions

Does blocking tiktok.com stop the TikTok app?

Not by itself. The app talks to tiktokv.com and loads video from separate CDN domains. NoorI's TikTok entry blocks all of these together.

Will reinstalling TikTok get around the block?

No. The block is on the phone's network lookups, not on the app or your account, so a fresh install still can't reach TikTok's servers.

Will TikTok videos shared in iMessage still play?

No. They load from the same blocked domains. A clip that was re-uploaded to another platform, such as Instagram, will play there unless you block that platform too.

Does this affect CapCut?

CapCut uses its own domains, so it normally keeps working. If something does break, the Activity tab in NoorI shows exactly which domain was blocked.
