Why people block dating apps on their own phone
Some people are in a committed relationship and want to remove any temptation to reinstall "just to look". Some are in recovery from compulsive sexual behaviour, where hookup apps are a common relapse route. Others are just tired of compulsive swiping and the brief lift of a new match, and the flat feeling afterwards. Whatever your reason, deleting the app rarely lasts, because getting it back takes ten seconds in the App Store and your account is still waiting.
Step 1: Delete the accounts, not just the apps
- In each app, find the delete option, usually Settings → Delete account. Hiding or pausing a profile keeps it ready for you to come back.
- Cancel any paid subscriptions under Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, since deleting an app doesn't cancel billing.
- Then delete the apps.
Step 2: Stop reinstalls with App Store age ratings
This is a little-known iPhone trick that works well. Dating apps carry adult age ratings on the App Store, so you can hide them altogether:
- Open Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn it on.
- Go to App Store, Media, Web & Games → Apps (the label varies slightly by iOS version).
- Choose a rating below the dating apps' rating, such as 16+ on iOS 26, which added 13+, 16+ and 18+ ratings.
- Set a Screen Time passcode, and ideally let someone else choose it.
Apps above the limit disappear from your home screen and can't be downloaded. The catch: it also hides any other adult-rated app you use, and if you know the passcode, it takes seconds to change back.
Step 3: Block the dating services themselves with NoorI
Age ratings stop the App Store. NoorI stops the services, including the websites and anything you've already installed.
- Enroll your iPhone with the free Cloudflare One app (iPhone setup guide).
- In Content Policy, create a rule, open the Apps tab, and select Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and Grindr. They cover domains such as
tinder.com,gotinder.com,bumble.com,hinge.coandgrindr.com. - Add other apps you've used, such as Feeld, OkCupid, Raya or Match, as custom domains in the same rule, using each service's main website domain.
- Save, then check the Activity tab after a day. If an app still connects through a domain you didn't list, add that domain too.
App and custom-domain blocking require Pro ($9.99/month, 7-day free trial).
Make it stick: Guardian Mode
Guardian Mode (Pro) adds a second person to the loop. You invite someone you trust, such as a partner, friend, sponsor or accountability buddy, from Settings → Guardian Mode. Once they accept and you switch it on, these changes need their approval: editing or deleting a rule, pausing protection, unlocking your profile, and disconnecting NoorI. Adding a new block never needs approval, because it only makes you safer.
When you ask to unlock, your guardian gets an email. Even if they approve, nothing opens right away. There is a mandatory delay of at least 4 hours (24 hours by default), then a 30-minute window to make changes, then everything locks again by itself. A request your guardian never answers expires after 48 hours. A guardian also can't be removed for the first 2 days after they accept, so you can't invite a second email address you own and quietly delete it.
If you're doing this for your relationship, think carefully about who your guardian should be. Some couples choose each other, while others pick a trusted friend so the arrangement doesn't feel like policing. Either way, give the same person the Screen Time passcode from Step 2.
Keeping dating apps off a teen's phone?
For a child's iPhone, the App Store age rating from Step 2, set by a parent through Family Sharing, is the main protection.
Blocking this for a child instead? The same steps work, but a managed child profile with its own rules is a better fit than sharing your account. See setting different rules for different children.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop myself reinstalling Tinder on iPhone?
Set Screen Time's App Store age rating below the dating app's rating so it can't be downloaded, and let someone else set the passcode. A network block on the service's domains means even a reinstalled app can't connect.
Does deleting the app delete my dating profile?
No. Your profile stays live, and may still be shown to others, until you delete the account inside the app or on the website.
Can I block all dating apps with one switch?
NoorI's app list includes Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and Grindr. Any other service is one custom domain each in the same rule.
