How to Block Reddit on iPhone (That Actually Sticks)
Block Reddit on your iPhone, in the app and in Safari, so NSFW subreddits and late-night scrolling stop being one tap away. Screen Time steps plus a firmer fix.

Why Reddit is harder to block than it looks
Reddit is rarely the thing people mean to open. It's the thing they end up on. You search a product question, add "reddit" to the query, and forty minutes later you're deep in r/all. For people quitting porn it's worse: Reddit hosts a huge amount of explicit content in NSFW subreddits, and it all sits on the same reddit.com domain as the cooking advice and the programming help.
That shared domain matters. Most adult-content filters, including the adult categories in NoorI's Basic preset, classify whole domains. Reddit is a general-purpose site, so it isn't classed as pornography, and its NSFW subreddits get through a "block adult sites" filter. If Reddit is your weak spot, you have to block Reddit by name. A porn filter won't catch it.
Option 1: Block Reddit with iPhone Screen Time
Screen Time is built in and free. To limit the Reddit app:
- Open Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit.
- Expand Social, select Reddit, and tap Next.
- Set the limit to 1 minute, turn on Block at End of Limit, and tap Add.
To block reddit.com in Safari and other browsers as well:
- Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn it on.
- Open App Store, Media, Web & Games → Web Content. The label varies slightly between iOS versions.
- Choose Limit Adult Websites, then under Never Allow add
reddit.com.
Why Screen Time alone usually fails
Screen Time was built for parents setting limits for a child, and it works best that way. On your own phone, it has some well-known weak points:
- "Ignore Limit" is one tap away unless you set a Screen Time passcode, and if you set the passcode yourself, you know it.
- The app limit doesn't cover the website. People who only add the App Limit find themselves on reddit.com in Safari a day later.
- Reddit content turns up in other apps. Links from Discord, X or group chats open Reddit in in-app browsers, and image hosts like
i.redd.itload inside other apps. - The setting is easy to undo when you're struggling. When the urge is strongest, turning Screen Time off takes about ten seconds.
Option 2: Block Reddit everywhere with NoorI
NoorI blocks Reddit at the DNS level, before your iPhone even connects, through a private Cloudflare Gateway linked to your account. Every app and browser on the phone uses that same lookup, so the official app, Safari, Chrome, in-app browsers and third-party Reddit clients all hit the same block.
- Create a NoorI account and enroll your iPhone with the free Cloudflare One app. See the iPhone setup guide. It takes about five minutes.
- In your dashboard, open Content Policy and create or edit a rule.
- Switch to the Apps tab and select Reddit. This covers
reddit.com,redd.it,redditmedia.com,reddituploads.comandredditstatic.com. - Save. Force-close the Reddit app so it drops any cached connection, then reopen it to confirm it no longer loads.
Blocking apps by name needs the Pro plan ($9.99/month, with a 7-day free trial). The Free plan covers one device with the Basic preset only, which blocks adult sites and security threats but, as explained above, not Reddit.
What changes once Reddit is blocked
- Google results that link to Reddit open NoorI's block page. That breaks the "add reddit to my search" habit, which is often where relapses start.
- Reddit posts embedded on news sites show up blank.
- Logging in with a Reddit account on other sites stops working.
If you need Reddit for work now and then, attach a schedule to the rule (for example, blocked except 12:00–12:30 on weekdays) instead of deleting it every time.
Make it stick: Guardian Mode
Guardian Mode (Pro) adds a second person to the loop. You invite someone you trust, such as a partner, friend, sponsor or accountability buddy, from Settings → Guardian Mode. Once they accept and you switch it on, these changes need their approval: editing or deleting a rule, pausing protection, unlocking your profile, and disconnecting NoorI. Adding a new block never needs approval, because it only makes you safer.
When you ask to unlock, your guardian gets an email. Even if they approve, nothing opens right away. There is a mandatory delay of at least 4 hours (24 hours by default), then a 30-minute window to make changes, then everything locks again by itself. A request your guardian never answers expires after 48 hours. A guardian also can't be removed for the first 2 days after they accept, so you can't invite a second email address you own and quietly delete it.
On iPhone, also turn on Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Deleting Apps → Don't Allow, and give the Screen Time passcode to the same person. Then removing Cloudflare One stops being a quick fix too. NoorI already locks the on/off switch inside the Cloudflare One app.
Blocking Reddit for a child?
Blocking this for a child instead? The same steps work, but a managed child profile with its own rules is a better fit than sharing your account. See setting different rules for different children.
Frequently asked questions
Can I block only NSFW subreddits and keep the rest of Reddit?
Not reliably on an iPhone. DNS filtering sees only the domain (reddit.com), not the subreddit you open, so it is all of Reddit or none of it. You can turn off "Show mature content" in your Reddit account preferences, but you can switch it back on in seconds. If NSFW subreddits are the problem, blocking Reddit entirely is the option that holds.
Does blocking Reddit with NoorI work on mobile data?
Yes. Cloudflare One carries your DNS through NoorI on Wi-Fi, 4G and 5G, so the block follows the phone everywhere.
Will a third-party Reddit app get around the block?
No. Third-party clients still load data from Reddit's own servers on reddit.com and its image domains, which are the domains NoorI blocks.
Is deleting the Reddit app enough?
Usually not. reddit.com works fine in Safari, and the app is one App Store tap away. Blocking the domains covers the app, the website and any reinstall.
